Arctic Monkeys are a British Indie Rock three-piece band formed in Sheffield in 2002. The band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, lead/rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (lead/rhythm guitar) and Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals). They shot to fame in 2006 when their album "Whatever you say I am, that's what I'm not" became the fastest selling British album of all time, with their song 'I bet that you look good on the dance floor' becoming an instant classic. They have released 4 more albums up to the present day and have won 5 Brit awards.
Arctic Monkeys were heralded as one of the first group of acts to come to the public attention via the Internet through fan-based sites, something that nowadays is very common. The band are also regarded as one of the most prominent bands to be part of the post-punk revival in the UK, after achieving commercial success and getting two number one singles with their debut album.
DEMOGRAPHICS
When looking at the demographics of people who would listen to Arctic Monkeys I looked up the listeners on last.fm and looked at their profiles.
AGES

For music in the same genre as Arctic Monkeys i predicted the typical age of listeners would be between 15 and 30, and after looking at the profile of the first 4 pages of listeners, i found that all of the 113 listeners were between the ages of 15 and 30. As we can see from the photo on the right hand side, the audience at a typical Arctic Monkeys gig is majority young people.
LOCATION

Ask.fm shows that listeners of Arctic Monkeys come from all over the world, with a lot from the United Kingdom and USA as well as places such as Sweden, Poland, Australia and Brazil. Arctic Monkeys' latest tour sees them playing in Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, UK, Canada and USA amongst other places. This is an example of the various locations where Arctic Monkeys are listened to, with the majority of their shows on the tour being sold out. In the past year they have also played in Mexico, Turkey, Switzerland, Croatia and Sweden. This shows the various locations around the world that they have fans.
SOCIAL BACKGROUND
Social background for Arctic Monkeys fans would be anything really, for this band in particular who have gained considerable mainstream fame and popularity, it is hard to put a tag on the social background their listeners would have. This is typical enough for a band that has gained mainstream bands. However usually they would have young fans, students etc, who are indie and like to be different.
GENDER
The Arctic Monkeys are liked by both genders greatly, and would have an equal enough amount of listeners from both. However, from looking on last.fm from the pages on listeners I have checked, the majority of listeners are female. While this is not fully representative it does show that the band have a large female following. we can see this from the front row of the crowd from Arctic Monkeys' Glastonbury performance which is shown in the photo on the right.
