The Empires are a indie/punk rock trio from Bangor in Northern Ireland. Each member of the band is 16 years old and they have recently released their first 8 song album 'Total.' The lead singer and guitarist is Danny Smart, the bassist is Andrew Armstrong and the drummer is Daniel Busby. All the members of the band still go to school and are a part of the band for enjoyment as opposed to being motivated by the thought of money. The Empires would play gigs wherever and whenever they can, and they have played in bars in Belfast such as Voodoo and the Pavilion in recent months, as well as playing gigs quite regularly in Bangor.

The band's mainly are written by lead vocalist and Danny Smart. The lyrics he write are often full of anger and angst, and some are about love. The band see the lyrics as a well they can appeal to their audience, as they could think the lyrics as relatable. As the band are all young males this could simply help to appeal to the demographic, stereotypically young males. As we can see from the photo on the right, the clothes the band wear can help to give us a sense of the image of the band, the band are wearing skinny jeans and printed t-shirts. Even the long hair of all 3 members is a distinctive enough part of the band's image. Lead singer Danny has recently cut off most of his hair.
The band we have chosen's genre is Indie rock with Punk influences. In a way it would be possible to define The Empire's genre as Indie rock or Punk rock. To find demographics and information on the audience of this type of music I will be doing research into the demographics of the audience for similar artists.
